The South Sudan men's national basketball team has made history by qualifying for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This marks the first time the team has qualified for the tournament. Led by NBA legend Luol Deng as coach, the team secured its spot after finishing as the top team in Group B of the African Qualifiers.

The Qualifiers ran from November 2021 to February 2023, with five African national teams earning a spot in the World Cup. South Sudan started its campaign in February 2022 and went undefeated in its group, winning all six games.

The team's success has been attributed to its talented roster, which includes several players who compete in the South Sudanese basketball league. With Deng's guidance, the team has shown strong teamwork and determination throughout the Qualifiers.

The World Cup will be held from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. South Sudan will face some of the top basketball nations in the world, including the United States, Spain, and France.
